Ever wished you could Irish step dance? Dreamed of doing circus tricks? Longed to write a play? Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts offers workshops and master classes featuring local and visiting artists that make it affordable and fun to learn a few new tricks. Here’s the current line-up…
Discussion and Q & A with Artists. Thurs, Jan. 19. Featuring a discussion of art making, community building and collaboration with Marc Bamuthi Joseph and Theaster Gates of “Red, Black and Green: A Blues.” Free and open to the public. Ticketholders for Joseph’s performance can also enjoy a sneak peak of an exhibit featuring a sculpture by Gates Fri, Jan. 2o at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.
Mask & Movement Workshop. Post-show workshop with Imago Theatre: ZooZoo in collaboration with the Phoenix Zoo. Sat, Jan. 28. For all ages. Free for “ZooZoo” ticket holders.
Step Dancing Master Class with Celtic Nights. Sat, Feb. 4. Featuring instruction in the fundamentals of Irish step dance. Beginner level/For all ages. $15.
Improv Workshop with Patti Hanson. Wed, Feb. 8, 15 & 22. Featuring body movement, storytelling and improvisational games that facilitate acting through improvisation with Patti Hanson, star of “Late Night Catechism.” For all skill levels/adults only. $60 includes all three classes.
Writing for the Stage with Kim Porter. Thurs, March 8, 15, 22 & 29 and April 5. Features instruction in developing solo performance using inspiration from real life, and a public performance of short works created in class (April 7). For adult writers and performers at all skill levels. $120 for all classes/public reading.
Acting Workshop with Jeffrey Tambor. Sat, March 25. Features acting instruction from character actor Jeffrey Tambor. For adult actors of any experience level. $40.
Circus Workshop with 7 Fingers. Fri, May 18. Features instruction in basic circus skills such as tumbling, flexibility, hand balancing and human pyramids. For ages 12 & up (basic knowledge of gymnastics suggested). $15.
